Prep curriculum

Our broad and creative curriculum promotes academic excellence, intellectual curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.

INFANTS - YEARS 1 & 2

INFANTS - YEARS 1 & 2

The infants benefit from specialist teachers for art, music, P.E and computing as well as being supported in their core subjects by individualised teaching and extra support from well-qualified and caring staff. Infants all visit Forest School in Ham regularly as well as having weekly swimming lessons. We love to go out and explore: Kew Gardens is a firm favourite as well as the Barnes Wetlands and further afield to places like Gunnersbury Museum and Bekenscot Model Village.

JUNIORS - YEARS 3 - 6

JUNIORS - YEARS 3 - 6

As they get older, it is all about growing more independent and learning about the world. In the Juniors, children have lessons from specialist teachers in science, art, music, PE, computing and French.

HALF CLASSES

HALF CLASSES

Children are often taught in half classes or have support teachers in the classroom, which ensures that no-one gets left behind and those who want to can extend their thinking and learning. Reading is a focus with dedicated time to read each day from a well-stocked, staffed library.

THURSDAY AFTERNOON CLUBS

THURSDAY AFTERNOON CLUBS

A highlight for the Juniors is our weekly afternoon ‘Thursday clubs’ where children can get to choose form a myriad of activities from cookery to pottery to padel tennis to sailing.

PREPARING OUR CHILDREN FOR THE FUTURE

PREPARING OUR CHILDREN FOR THE FUTURE

11+ exam results are excellent and the process is smooth.

At Unicorn, we strive to ensure our pupils go on to the right schools for them. Children learn best where they are happiest and so we advise against excessive tutoring and putting children in the position where they are always trying to ‘keep up’. Communication with parents starts in Year 4 but the pupils are protected from 11+ speak until January of Year 5. We have resisted narrowing our broad and creative curriculum as exams approach and as a co-ed, non-selective school, we send children to a wide range of leading day and boarding schools.
