About Unicorn

Founded in 1970, Unicorn is a successful and vibrant co-ed prep school for children aged 3 – 11, housed in a large Victorian villa opposite Kew Gardens.

We pride ourselves in preparing children for the ever-changing world ahead, cultivating not just academic prowess, but also confidence, resilience, adaptability, and the lasting virtues of kindness and compassion.

Children are encouraged to discover their strengths and passions, whether academically, in the arts or on the sports field. Achieving excellent results, Unicorn feeds on to a wide range of leading day and boarding schools.

Step into the garden

Step into the garden and you’ll find the Coach House, home to our nursery and reception classes, along with a spacious art room on the upper floor. At the bottom of the garden we have 4 sound-proofed music pods for both class and individual lessons.

The large astroturf playground is filled with colourful equipment, providing a perfect space for children to play and explore.

Resident Chef Sergio

Chef Sergio and his team produce wholesome and healthy lunches and snacks. Weekly menus include meat/fish or vegetarian options, a salad bar, puddings and fresh fruit. We also have World Food Wednesdays where culinary experiences include Japanese, German, Chinese, Spanish and Italian.

Our classrooms

Class sizes are small of usually no more than 22 children with many subjects being taught in half classes.  All classrooms enjoy abundant natural light, state-of-the-art equipment and are named after the colours of the rainbow.  We have dedicated library, science and computer rooms in the main building and a dedicated art room in the Coach House where lessons are taught in half classes by specialist teachers.

“Still, words like unicorn and rainbow can be misleading – this is not a fluffy, cuddly academic vacuum, but a serious place of learning and development.”
